“The Just War” theory of the Church can cause confusion for many. In broad terms, Christians must not love violence. They must promote peace whenever possible and be slow to resort to the use of arms. But they must not be afraid to do so when it is called for. But when is it called for? Tim Valentine served in Iraq as a Chaplain and he came to understand this philosophy intimately. He saw first hand the pressure and responsibility that commanding generals were under when they had to make decisions regarding who they were sending to fight, knowing that they might kill or be killed. He explains more to Pat Coyle.
