Schools in Ireland have mainly been denominational and organised with a particular ethos in mind that suited the community it supported. In the last number of years Ireland has changed and become more diverse and this had led to an increase in multi cultural schools. Raymond Topley and Gareth Byrne talk to Miriam Gormally about the necessity to recognise and respond to this change and the solutions required to address the challenges faced by teachers to educate all the children in the class while maintaining the ethos of the school.
