Next year marks the 1500 year anniversary of the birth of St Colmcille, Irish abbot and missionary who was credited with spreading Christianity into Scotland. Bishop Alan McGuckian of Raphoe in Donegal thought that it would be a good time to create an Irish camino based around this saint.

An avid walker himself, Bishop McGuckian was very aware of the beauty and walks the Donegal has to offer and braving all weather he set out to explore the paths once wandered by Saint Colmcille who was born in 521 AD in Gartan.  In this piece with Pat Coyle, he talks about the places he went to as well as what he learned about himself on pilgrimage.
