Denomination schools have an important and vital role in society and should be publically funded, so say David Quinn, columnist and director of the Iona Institute, a Catholic think tank for religion and society. However he also agrees with groups who are looking for divestment as he would like to see more schools available for those who want them and that each schools would then be allowed to represent their own ethos more fully. But above all believes that it is parents who should have the final say. He explains more to Miriam Gormally.
I find this a most interesting interview as David puts the issue of Catholic schools into an objective perspective. Somehow, he extracts the emotive, anti-Catholic aspect out of the argument and I find this most refreshing. Many thanks for bringing this to my attention.
