Fr. Robert Spitzer SJ talks with Conor Deane during his recent conference in UCD.
Robert J. Spitzer, S.J., (b. May 16, 1952 in Hawaii) is a Jesuit priest, philosopher, educator, author, speaker, and retired President of Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. Fr. Spitzer is founder and currently active as President of Magis Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to public education concerning the complementary relationship among the varied disciplines of physics, philosophy, reason, and faith. He is also the Chief Education Officer of the Ethics and Performance Institute which delivers web-based ethics education to corporations and individuals. He is also President of the Spitzer Centre of Catholic Organisations, which helps cultivate cultures of evangelization in Catholic dioceses, parishes, schools, and other organizations.
In this interview Fr. Robert Spitzer argues for a single universe from the big bang, and goes on to state that he believes God is a creative God who if he so wills it can create other beings in other galaxies and solar systems. Moreover Fr. Spitzer talks about Near Death Experiences and their importance in accepting that we do indeed have souls. He bases this claim on peer review studies by scientists as Fr. Spitzer is himself not just a Catholic priest but also a scientist.
Among so many television programs that he has appeared on, Fr. Spitzer has also appeared on Larry King Live and debated with the popular scientist Stephen Hawking. Here is in action: http://vimeo.com/15383112
