October marks the 150thanniversary of Gandhi’s birth – an important celebration, that has a particular significance for the Michael Davitt Museum. Michael Davitt played a key role in the Land War of the 1880’s that helped break the power of the landlords and which eventually led to the transfer of ownership of the land to the people. He is said to have inspired Gandhi in terms of leading a peaceful uprising against Colonial power.

Miriam Gormally met John Reid and Yvonne Corcoran Loftus, both of whom work for the Michael Davitt Museum as well as Don Mullan, long time admirer of Gandhi and Davitt. They were on their way to a meeting there were going to at the Indian Embassy in order to help celebrate the links between Davitt and Gandhi.
