Hunger Strike for Pro Life

The Former Independent election candidate for Donegal, Tim Jackson fasted outside the Dáil in a bid to force the Oireachtas committee examining the Eighth Amendment to watch a video of an abortion. Senator Catherine Noone wrote to Tim Jackson on the fifth day of his protest, to say she watched the video of an abortion and that “the Taoiseach has no difficulty watching it”. Tim however insisted that the committee needed to watch the video together in session.

The Oireachtas Abortion Committee met and did not watch the animated footage. As a result, Jackson (28) ended his hunger strike but said he would continue his pro-life campaign ahead of next year’s referendum. He talks here with Conor Deane on the last day of his hunger strike, discussing the reaction that he’d had and his hopes for the future.
