Peadar Tóibín born 19 June 1974 is an Irish politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Meath West constituency since the 2011 general election. He was twice elected as a Sinn Féin candidate, but resigned from the party on 15 November 2018. He was Chair of the Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs from 2016 to 2018. In January 2019, he founded a new political party called Aontú.
They have held over forty public meetings around the country, with one in each country. With over two thousand members signed up and fifty representatives selected to run, they hope to make an impact in the next general election. They are also keen to focus on the European elections.
Here he talks to Conor Deane about why he left Sinn Féin, his hopes for the future of Aontú and how he is informed and guided by his Christian beliefs. He starts by telling Conor a story of hardship that he encounter that left him with a strong vision that Ireland needed to do more to help everyone reach their potential.
I would submit that the UN is directing the problem with foreigners coming in to take what should be given to their own citizens. This is a bigger issue which involves flooding our countries with muslims in order to take control. Many are not at all refugees. Call me racist as this is usually the typical simplified response but this is about invasion. You’ll see I was right in less than 10 years.
