Fr Brendan Hoban of the Association of Catholic Priests says that priests in Ireland today are in crisis. They face overwork and loneliness, having lost their place in the community. He says they often lead lives of desperation where they realise how little care or esteem is left for them, often even afraid to wear their collar in public outside their parish in case they are taunted or vilified. Miriam Gormally spoke with Fr Brendan to find out if he thought there is anything the Church could do to help the priests that are left in Ireland lead a life of dignity.
