In a piece on the Limerick Synod website titled Setting the Compass you read ‘If the synod were to be no more than an event of a few days, it would probably be a waste of time. The risk would be that it would only produce a report gathering dust on the shelf. The Synod will have to mark a real step forward, indicating a realistic pathway of genuine renewal for all of us who feel faith is important.’

Betty Baker, a Salesian Sister with vast experience in education and in pastoral work in Limerick diocese was a member of the Preparatory Commission. She spoke to Marie Stuart about the various stages of the process, the emphasis that was placed on engaging the people of the diocese at every level and the outcomes of the process. She also reflected on the challenges of engaging wholeheartedly in the process.
