The first week in October is Positive Ageing week and in the spirit of that week, older people all around the country are taking on new challenges and taking up new opportunities to learn. Miriam Gormally met Alen Smith and Maire O’Kelly who are involved in a programme called “Start Up” which organises older volunteers to give computer tutorials to other older people. Alen is the tutor and Maire the student. Alen began by explaining to Miriam why it was ironic that he of all people would be teaching computers.
