World Youth Day , a youth event organised by the Catholic Church, was initiated by Pope John Paul II in 1984 and it is a worldwide encounter with the Pope which is typically celebrated every three years in a different country. This year it was help in Cologne, Germany. Ann McDonnell attended for the first time this year and shares her experience with us, her reasons for going and meeting the Pope by chance on a street in Cologne.
