Ciara Smullen – The interior designer on the project.

Ireland’s first shipping container home was built over three days in November and displayed on the grounds of the Irish Museum of Modern Arts.

It went from this

to this.

And inside.

It has since been donated to Saint Vincent de Paul in Cork where it will go to helping house homeless people.

The project has seen a 40 sq. ft container changed into a stylish house with every convenience and comfort including solar panel, extensive insulation and a heat recover system.

Over the past two years more than 40 professionals and trades people have contributed to the build. Volunteers involved have had to overcome a number of obstacles, including the Irish climate and restrictive building regulations.

Miriam Gormally spoke with Ciara Smullen, a designer from SKI interiors who did the interior decorating for the container about being involved in the project and how exciting it was.
