Several churches in the Egyptian city of Minya have said that they will cut back on Easter services as a mark of respect for those killed by Islamic extremists in last week’s twin Palm Sunday bombings. The Coptic community have been the victims of previous attacks and have expressed anger at what they see as a inability to protect them from terror. Pope Francis is due to visit Egypt later this month in a show of solidarity.
Miriam Gormally met with Archbishop of Dublin, the Most Revd Dr Michael Jackson who has expressed solidarity with Coptic Christians in Egypt following two attacks on Sunday April 9. Both attacks targeted Palm Sunday Services which were attended by innocent men, women and children celebrating Christ’s entry into Jerusalem.
Dr Michael Jackson began by explaining how false divisions have come about in a country that used to be largely peaceful.
