In this second part of our series with Fr Bernárd Lynch, a Catholic priest who is gay and married, he talks about his life journey – coming out as gay as well as meeting his husband Billy Desmond.

He speaks of the oft quoted phrase, “The Truth will set you Free” in relation to how it applies to gay men and their sexuality. He says that it is a beautiful phrase, but many forget to mention the other side, that “The Truth” will also crucify you.

He discusses the importance of healthy honest relationships. He questions whether it’s possible for any of the secret relationships the priests talk about in therapy with him can ever be healthy.

Miriam Gormally began by asking him about maintaining priesthood, marriage, meaning and a sense of the love of God.

One response to “The Nature of God”

  1. Soline Humbert says:

A very powerful life testimony.A voice of integrity and a message which need to be heard more widely.’To bring liberty to captives’:so many priests are fearful
prisoners of clerical misogynistic and homophobic attitudes and rules which they have internalised.
    Bernárd’s priesthood shine through.
I am looking forward to listening to part 3.
