The extraordinary Synod of Bishops on the family kicked off in Vatican City on Monday, and we are beginning to see what frank and open dialogue may look like in the church at its highest level in 2014.

Many Catholics are hopeful the synod will bring meaningful change to how the church ministers to the modern Catholic family. While Francis invited Bishops to speak candidly, Michael Kelly editor of the Irish Catholic said that it was unlikely that there would be any doctrinal changes. Miriam Gormally spoke with Michael Kelly to find out how many of the controversial issues, such as divorce, gay marriage, contraception, sex before marriage and lone parents would be discussed in the Synod. Miriam began by asking Michael whether Pope Francis wanted to start a revolution within the Church.
