The Alpha Course, now known simply as Alpha, is an evangelistic course which seeks to introduce the basics of the Christian faith through a series of talks and discussions. It is described by its organisers as “an opportunity to explore the meaning of life”. More traditionally attended by evangelical Protestants, it has, in recent years been embraced by Christians of all denominations. Miriam Gormally met Fiona O’Connor who has been along four times, the last two as a leader. She explains the appeal.
