The Summer issue of the Jesuit publication ‘Studies’ deals with the complex issue of education  –  choices available to parents, school policies, ethics and professionalism in teaching, intercultural education  –  all issues in today’s Ireland.  Editor, Fr. Fergus O’Donoghue acknowledges that parents want a religious aspect to their children’s education, but notes that “…many of us now lack the vocabulary to express our beliefs, beyond a vague good will about God” and that “there is a danger that the basics of our Christian beliefs and culture will not be passed to those now at school.” Eileen Good asked Fr. Fergus why he felt this situation had arisen.
