This coming May, the people of Ireland will be asked to decide whether the following new wording should be added to the Constitution: ‘Marriage may be contracted in accordance with law by two persons without distinction as to their sex.’
Faith in Marriage Equality is a group of religious people who have come together to support same-sex marriage.
With the referendum on same-sex marriage due in May, Faith in Marriage Equality (FIME) says it wants to show that people of faith can also support the move. It also wants to add new voices to the debate about the referendum in Ireland.
Dr HUGH DENARD is a member of the Church of Ireland and spokesperson for FIME. He is also a Committee member of Changing Attitude Ireland and a lecturer at Trinity College Dublin
He spoke with Miriam Gormally about his perspective on the referendum and began by talking about the changes that have taken place in people’s attitudes when it comes to same-sex marriage.
