In this two part series from the archives, Celeste Snowber, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada explores our relationships with our bodies. She feels strongly that the body is central to how we live, move, breathe, question, and uncover passion and voice.

She is also a dancer, poet, writer and award-winning educator, who believes that physicality has been separated from spirituality in a way that leaves us cut off from our core being. Even language around expressions, like we have a body, rather than we are a body, create that sense of separation, when in her view they are inextricably interlinked. She says: “When we can open up to the body, we can open up to the heart… it’s about embracing our deep humanity and our bodies are part of that humanity.”

In this first of a two part series, she explains to Pat Coyle how we need to open up to our bodies to really experience the mystical.
