Defending the Pope

Fr Brian Shortall is a Capuchin and author of the book “Tired of all the Bad News” who is based in Dublin. He met Pope Francis on his visit to Ireland when he came to the Capuchin Day Care Centre. He argues in his blog the Pope is under attack from ministers in the Church would prefer to see the back of Pope Francis and this is very sad.

He argues that “There are some in ministry who feel Pope Francis is too liberal, dispensing with many of the exterior trappings of the papacy like living modestly, wearing a simpler cassock and sash, and wearing simpler vestments.”

Fr Shortall says that having met with Pope Francis, he is fully convinced that his message of simplicity and living more humbly is rather bringing the church closer to Jesus Christ.     A wonderful testimony to the authenticity of Pope Francis and the witness of Jesus being lived out by him.
