Loreto, 400 Years

The founder of the Loreto Order was a determined Yorkshire woman. She insisted that the Order was not to be enclosed and was to be governed by women – and for her principles she was at one time imprisoned for heresy. Loreto Sister Elaine McDonald, lecturer in Mater Dei, told Eileen Good about their founder, Mary Ward, and that they were first known as The Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
