Irish woman Marie Collins has resigned from the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors.
She has stated that when she took up her appointment in 2014, she made it publicly known that if she found any discrepancy between what was happening behind closed doors and what was being said to the public she would not remain on the Commission.
Her resignation brought great disappointment to many who had seen her initial appointment in 2014 as a sign that abuse victims would be listened to. Her resignation coming shortly before International Women’s Day, was seen as a sign by many in the Church that women were not being listened to. Miriam Gormally met with Phil Dunne from We are Church Ireland who said that the CDF or Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith were rejecting any reform and so making it impossible for different voices to be heard.
