“Mindfulness is a both a meditation & a way of life” states author Martina Sheehan. In her new book Martina Lehane Sheehan, who is the director of retreats at Ennismore Retreat Centre in Cork, seeks to guide and enlighten the reader about how they can benefit from practicing Mindfulness.

Martina shared that many people are often concerned about these sort of practices from other cultures, in fear that they are giving ground to ‘foreign or pagan’ practices. However Ms. Lehane Sheehan tells us that these alternative techniques provide a fresh road to understanding ourselves, our lives and our spirituality and the practice of living as a human being rather than “human doings.” That indeed we must be kind to ourselves and take the time each day to pause and rest for a while so that we can be kind to others for example.

It is a practical book, which uses stories to convey it’s message, rather than a meditative one and Ms Sheehan tells us it isn’t a single day read either. The reader is meant to take their time and practice the meditating using the book as their guide. Ms Sheehan is an experienced spiritual director and in this book she focuses on the needs of the readers.

All proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to the Adi Roche’s Chernobyl Children International charity. It is available to purchase in Veritas.
