Mission Month

October is Mission Month and recently Irish missionaries have been acclaimed for their work. The most notable of them was Fr. Shay Cullen who was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. However Matt Moran, the author of the book, “The Legacies of Irish Missionaries Lives on” says there are many more and the last two years in particular have seen many Irish missionaries receive recognition here in Ireland and in the countries where they work. Matt explained more to Miriam.

I was very taken by this excellent interview. The role of missionaries is always modest in the telling and it is very good to hear actual examples of their worth. However, what interested me most in this interview was Miriam’s question regarding climate change. The answer more than puts the positive part missionaries in the spotlight. I wondered though if the question was a little-tongue-in cheek, since Seán McDonogh and his great stance with regard to climate change has already featured on this station.
