The new translations of the Missal brought with them a need for new music. Music that had been written for the past needed to be updated or lost forever. Fintan P O’Carroll was one of the composers whose works were widely known. His Mass of the Immaculate Conception was selected for the occasion of the visit of Pope John Paul II to Limerick in 1979. Miriam Gormally met his son Kevin O’Carroll, who took on the momentous job of updating the music and asked him whether he thought his father would be happy with the work.
