On May 22^nd, Ireland was the first country to pass same sex marriage by popular vote. There was much heated debate leading up to the referendum and while there was much celebration in Dublin Castle, there still remain some concerns on the No side of the debate.

Miriam Gormally met with Phil Dunne joint co-ordinator with We are Chuch and Breda O’Brien patron of the Iona Institute. We are Church campaigned for a Yes vote while the Iona Institute spoke out for a No vote. In these two interviews we get the views and reactions of the vote and how the two sides can reassure each other and coexist in the same Church.

In this interview Miriam Gormally is speaking with Breda O’Brien about the concerns that remain for the people who voted No.

This very thoughtful interview was most welcome now a week out from the Marriage Equality Referendum. It would be quite important journalistically to stay abreast of political developments regarding surrogacy and its regulation in Ireland. Likewise with respect to moves by the Catholic Church to engage in a “reality check” as acknowledged by Archbishop Diarmuid and others in the Vatican.
