Ireland of the 21st century is a society in transformation. We can now enjoy freedom from the shackles – economic or social – of the past. However for all our success, many still feel disconnected and marginalised, as the gap between those who have that who have not widens. And despite our liberties, society lacks the cohesion of the past. Miriam Gormally rang David Quinn, religious and social affairs commentator with the Irish Independent and The Irish Catholic, to get his comments for social values in 2007. He explores the changing values over the ages, looking at the pluses and minuses of each era and points the way forward for the future.
