For the Catholic Church, these are testing times – the sex abuse and other scandals, the huge fall off in regular church attendance and – above all – the startling decline in the number of priests and religious. Unless there is some unforeseen turnaround, the time is not far off when many parishes will not have a priest to serve. Father Gerard Moloney is editor of the popular Redemptorist magazine “Reality”. Liam Cahill asked him if the negative trends currently affecting the Church could not be reversed.
