Professor Patrick Riordan (Heythrop College) talks about how people of faith can respond to a secular world. In his paper entitled, The Secular is not Scary: Cooperation beyond Coexistence, he looks at the values that the Church and secular society can learn from each other. He also explores how in the past the Church and State fought to have the ultimate authority and how the State feared the Church because they had the higher claim to authority and told people not to be afraid of the State.
