The role of the Tree Council is to promote the planting, care and enjoyment of trees. John McLoughlin speaks to Miriam Gormally about the significance of trees at Easter time, starting with Palm Sunday. He talks about the ‘Crown of Thorns’ of Good Friday, the wood used to make the cross and the Elder Tree on which Judas supposedly hung himself. He also talks about the superstitions attached to trees and how Easter encourages people to plant.
