Trócaire’s garden of resistance recently won gold in the Bloom Garden Festival. Designed by Barry Kavanagh, it represented the plight of human rights defenders who are risking their lives and safety to protect their homes and communities from exploitation and eviction.

The garden was broken up into three areas of geographical representation; Palestine, Guatemala and Zimbabwe. Each section representing how human rights defenders in those countries are standing up for people at threat of eviction and violence.

The garden was surrounded by Irish plants, representing people in Ireland embracing the people who are at the forefront of the struggle for justice in Palestine, Guatemala and Zimbabwe.

Eoghan Rice, Head of Communications with Trócaire explained to Miriam Gormally that the garden gave them a good starting point to talk about some of the work they are doing as well as the kinds of injustices people face globally.
