The recently published visitation report produced by the Vatican admitted to “shame” that “innocent young people were abused by clerics and religious.” In it there are several recommendations regarding the formation of priests as well as a call to continue the work in maintaining and improving the new child protection guidelines. Pat Coyle spoke with Jim Corkery SJ, Professor of Theology at the Milltown Institute of Philosophy and Theology (visited by the Vatican team) and author of Joseph Ratzinger’s Thelolgical Ideas and co-editor of The Papacy since 1500. Pat began by asking Fr. Corkery whether he thought this report would help bring about renewal and healing within the Church.
