On Sept 4th, Mother Teresa, a Catholic nun who devoted her life to helping India’s poor, was declared a saint in a canonisation Mass held by Pope Francis in the Vatican. Long before her canonisation, many people already saw her as a saint and she was affectionately known as the “saint of the gutters”. Sr Stanislaus Kennedy or Sr Stan as she is know met with the then    Mother Teresa, years ago in America when they were setting up social services in the poorest part of Detroit. She felt a strong connection to her and much of her own work also focuses on dealing with those who are marginalized and like Mother Teresa seeing Christ in everyone, but particularly the poor.

I love this well-measured interview. Stan is so clear about her own vision that she can give a view contrary to Saint Teresa. It shows that even a person who stands for an exemplary way of life still has feet of clay. Only someone as obviously committed as Stan is can be heard in this debate.
