We have recently in the media heard the stories of women who had abortions without any regret, but a story that is less often heard is the story of women who have had abortions and who live with reminders and questions of what if? So says Breda O’Brien, columnist with the Irish Times and teacher in Muckross Park College. Here she talks about how the narrative of abortion stories and the feminism that accompanies it often focuses on making women free from having babies rather than making having babies something that are central to life and a gift to society. Miriam Gormally began by asking her whether there was a need for women to talk about their abortion stories as they had largely suppressed those stories previously.
I found this a very alternative view that I really appreciate. so much change is happening on our society and Breda’s measured and tranquil voice is one worthy of a hearing.
