Eco-Congregation Ireland (ECI) and Kilkenny eco-churches are holding an Eco Roadshow on the theme ‘Live Simply, Live Well ~ why Christians should care about the environment’ in the River Court Hotel, Kilkenny on Saturday 20th April from 2-5pm. The speakers will be environmentalist Gavin Harte, and eco-theologian and author, Fr Seán McDonagh SSC.

The Church of Ireland Diocese of Cashel and Ossory will be presented with an ECI diocesan award, making them the second diocese in Ireland to receive such an award.

Miriam Gormally met with Sr. Agnes Coll from the Oblate parishes in Inchicore, the first Catholic parish to get the award, to find out more about Christian Ecology.  Sr. Agnes discusses how she feels that it’s something that’s on the new Pope’s agenda.

It was easy to listen to Agnes because I know her and I have done the Be The Change programme. It was also positive to hear about her hope for Pope Francis and the small, if I dare call them so, projects being supported by the parish in which she lives. However, on hearing the questions Miriam asks towards the end, I am reminded that the ecological issues require a total change of heart. I hear echoes of the story of the rich young man and am personally challenged about my own lifestyle. May we learn to work together to mend our planet, right now!
