Ireland was recently ranked the worst performing country in Europe for tackling climate change. The Climate Change Performance Index ranks Ireland 45th out of 57 countries when judged on three categories; greenhouse gas emissions, renewable energy, and energy use, and categorises Ireland as a ‘Very Low performing’ country – the worst ranking available.

The report warned that Ireland’s existing efforts mean it will not achieve either its EU 2020 or 2030 targets which aims to limit global warming to below 2°C.

Pat Coyle spoke with Catherine Devitt, the Environmental Justice Officer with the Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice to find out why Ireland was doing so badly. They also talked about how the impact of climate change is now visible in Ireland with increased stormy weather, droughts and floods.
