Lá Féile Bhríde is a celebration of one of the most well-known and loved female Irish saints. She was a woman of the land, a spiritual leader, a peacemaker and a woman of legendary hospitality. Solas Bhride, the light of St. Brigid, is a Christian Spiritual centre and hermitage that opened two years ago in Kildare town. This year they had a great line up of events to celebrate this much loved saint. Starting with a monastic trail, they also held a candle-lit ritual at St. Brigid’s well and a concert with Luka Bloom and Cormac Breatnach. Miriam Gormally met Sr Rita Minehan a Brigidine sister, at the fossil-free eco building in Kildare. She said the world is really opening up to St Brigid’s message of care of the planet. She began by explaining that St Brigid’s day is about being in touch with our environment and how appropriate it is that her day is on Feb 1st, when the new season of spring is bringing light into the world.
