The role of women in the church is one that causes much contention, but Fr Wilfred Harrington, a Dominican theologian says that this stem from the culture of the day and not from a true understanding of Christianity.
Wilfred talks about how women in the early Church played a very prominent role. He says there is evidence of this in St Paul’s letters, despite the common interpretation that St Paul with an anti-women . He talks about changing the perception of Paul in his lectures and also how the question of female priests or even male priest does not appear anywhere in the New Testament.
I would like this interview to be required listening for all clergy, especially popes! Such a simple explanation of the reason Paul has a bad reputation. I was especially interested in the almost throwaway remark about the late installation of any priesthood, male or female. Let’s hear more from this unassuming man and many thanks for giving him this space.
