Querida Amazonia’s view on Women

“Francis’ dream for women in latest papal document is more like nightmarish vision”, so says Soline Humbert from “We are Church”.

In an article for the Irish Times, she wrote, “I have heard several people talk of frustration, anger, devastation, dismay and even tears at the description of women and their roles in the church contained in this latest papal document, quite a few saying it is the end of the road for them.”

She said that there had been great hope in the community that married clergy would be allowed and that women would be allowed to become deacons. However “Querida Amazonia” refused to make any changes on either of these two issues.

Miriam Gormally met with Soline on March 25th, the feast of the annunciation and day dedicated to prayer for the ordination of women. It was also the day 25 years ago that the group Basic – Brothers and Sisters in Christ had a seminar in Milltown entitled, “Women sharing fully in the ministry of Christ”.  Three women including Soline came out with their own sense of vocation and called for an opening or ordination to women.

It is so sad that women can’t even go to renote areas of Amazon to help a tottering church
