This second part of The Volunteer continues by looking at how Shane O’Doherty was arrested and his subsequent life in prison. It explores how he turned from a bomber to someone who publically and privately called for an end to all violence. He talks about the power of prayer and how it sustains him through life and looks at his moments of transformation. It was went he started to see that causalities on ordinary people that he began to question whether what he was doing was right. The injured people who were at his trial caused him to apologise, surprising everyone. He even says that in many ways his arrest was a blessing and it was there that he encounter the gospels.
