It’s just over two years ago since we saw those amazing scenes in St. Peter’s Square in Rome when we witnessed first the funeral of John Paul 11 and later on, the election of Pope Benedict the sixteenth who has just celebrated his 80th birthday. John Paul II was 84 when he died – a charismatic figure to the end. In his first two years in office Pope Benedict has, perhaps unexpectedly, confounded his original critics and stamped his own personality on the office. Pat Coyle spoke to Fr. Jim Caffrey, Director of CYC in Dublin, who met both pontiffs.  He spoke first about his memories of Pope John Paul II.
