Shaykh Umar Al-Qadri is the head Imam of Al-Mustafa Islamic Educational and Cultural Centre Ireland. Born in Pakistan to a scholarly family, he moved to Holland when he was very young, then moved to Ireland in 2004. He writes articles and lectures on Islam and interfaith relations. Keen to promote integration and thus prevent extremism, he talks to Conor Deane about the need for integration and how it can be done in Ireland.

    Thanks you Shaykh for your open interview. I found it welcoming of real integration, both of culture and of religion. I believe that any viable future must be inter-faith and voices such as yours pave the way for this new way of being. I was especially taken by your decision to view pilgrimage as staying among those in need. I hope that I could have had the trust to make such a choice.
